Frank Bonardi founded Bonardi s Formal Wear in 1923, with the original concept to sell men’s formal clothing and accessories. Over the years, the business evolved to include a tuxedo rental and sales department. In 1961, Bonardi sold his store in two parts–the clothing department became Marcel Snyder clothiers and the formalwear department became Bonardi’s Formal Wear. Louis A. Ferraro, the new owner of Bonardi’s Formal Wear, retained the Bonardi name. Following years of growth, the company changed its location on numerous instances. In 1980, Leonard Chirchigno purchased the company from Louis Ferraro. From a single store, the company has expanded to five stores in Milford, Worcester, Framingham, Auburn and Sturbridge, Mass.
