Originally built in 1906 to serve as a residential home, Woodlands Resort & Inn opened to the public in May 1995. It is the only facility in the southeastern United States with membership in the international collection of privately held, grand luxe hotels and restaurants known as Relais & Chateaux. The resort encompasses 42 private, park-like acres of pines, palmettos and ancient oaks. Located within the house are 19 guest accommodations. Most have contemporary residential amenities, such as fireplaces, Bose stereos and lavish baths with steam-heated towel racks, Jacuzzis and separate showers. The Dining Room at Woodlands has received a five diamond rating from the American Automobile Association and a five star rating from mobile. Its wine list has received several awards, as well, including a Best of Award for Excellence from Wine Spectator. Woodlands Resort & Inn is located in Summerville, S.C.
