The story is out about Cardenas Meat Market starting business with one pregnant pig. It was this pregnant pig that gave the Cardenas family a head start on a thriving hog farm and that, in turn lead to a thriving supermarket chain in Ontario, Calif. Over time, their ranch grew to include cows, goats, sheep and chickens and they opened a 4,000 square-foot store on their own in Ontario in 1981. Today, the Cardenas Meat Market employs more than 1,000 employees and has locations in Ontario, Montclair, Moreno Valley, Pomona, Fontana, Rialto, Colton, San Jacinto and Riverside. Six of these stores were added in 2000 and in one in 2004. Cardenas is planning to add another store in Rubidoux. The company has its main offices in Ontario, Calif.
