Louisville Zoo, founded in 1980, is a nonprofit organization offering wildlife conservation, and study and recreational facilities to residents of Kentucky. The zoo also has a botanical garden that offers a variety of exotic and natural plants, trees and grasses. It is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, and the American Association of Museums. The zoo currently exhibits over 1,300 animals, including gorillas, lions, tigers, polar bears, penguins, hippos, black storks, capuchin monkeys, lemurs, leopards, orangutan, reptiles and birds. It organizes special educational and entertainment programs for children, including camps, classes and community programs. The zoo is located in Louisville, Ky.
