Abe & Jake s Landing, an entertainment center, originally began as the Consolidated Barbed Wire Company in the 1880s. Abe and Jake’s Landing takes its name from Abe Burns and Jake Washington, two local fisherman who had a fishing cabin next to the barbed wire building. The company is known throughout the United States as a platform for upcoming artists. The entertainment center features performances by artists, such as Digital Underground, Vanilla Ice, the Wailers, Blues Traveler, Victor Wooten, Jurassic 5, and G-Love and Special Sauce. The facility features a kitchen, in-house production staff, a state-of-the-art Front-of-House system and hotel accommodation. Its promotions department assists artists in designing handbills and posters for distribution in the Kansas City, Lawrence, Topeka and Manhattan areas.
