With its business community recognizing the need for quality guest accommodations, the Hotel Fort Des Moines was erected in the Iowa capital in the early 1900s. Designed by the local architectural firm Proudfoot, Bird and Rawson, the high-rise hotel became a signature building in Des Moines. The Hotel Fort Des Moines went through extensive renovations in the late 1970s and, in 1982, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The hotel includes a restaurant, lounge, brew pub and coffee bar, as well as a business center, pool and spa.
