The history of the Number 5 Restaurant began with its inception as Fire Station Number 5 back in 1897. For more than 75 years the Number 5 served the South Side of Binghamton, N.Y. With the new onslaught of fire station construction in the early 1970s, Engine House Number 5 became surplus property and was auctioned off. An Ithaca, N.Y., developer bought the property and began the transformation from firehouse to restaurant. In 1978, Jim Mccoy bought the property and developed it into the Number 5 Restaurant. In 1998, the property was declared a local and state landmark. The menu consists of a variety of appetizers; soups-n-salads; Number 5 specialties, such as tenderloin, filet, lobster and saltimbocca; red meats; white meats; seafood; pasta and vegetarian meals. Number 5 Restaurant is headquartered in Binghamton, N.Y.
