Ekaston is an independent, nonprofit corporation founded in the 1960s when the Disciples of Christ Church in Oakland, Calif., formed a charitable organization to provide health care, housing and other services to seniors and families. The organization’s name, Eskaton, is a Greek word interpreted to mean the ‘beginning of a new age. The company s services encompass retirement communities, senior apartment communities, independent living with services, assisted living, rehabilitation and skilled nursing care, home care services and senior care coordination. Its corporate offices are located in Carmichael, Calif., a suburb of Sacramento.
