During the 1960s, Kings Hawaiian Bakery West s was the largest customer of the Honolulu Post Office based on the shipment of its round Hawaiian Sweet Bread alone. Tourists who frequented the Hawaii bakery were requesting the bread once they returned back to the United States mainland. A decade later, the company built a bakery facility in Torrance, Calif., to make its bread more available throughout the rest of the nation. The company continues to make a variety of breads and rolls. Kings Hawaiian s roots were established in 1950, when Robert Taira opened his first bakery and began producing fresh baked goods including Original Recipe Kings Hawaiian Sweet Bread.
